Thumbs Down:
- When kids who need their beauty rest, don't sleep.
- Bill 13 passed second reading at the B.C. Leg. today. It's Part 9 that I have bones about. Sure, the municipalities have always had these powers to a degree, but the content that is being targeted (anti-Olympic material) sounds a lot like some civil rights are being squashed - even if it's only for 2 1/2 weeks.
- I'm really, really, tired. All that family time meant little sleep.
- A messy house and an unmotivated cleaner. (Blogging is great for procrastinating.)
But all that stuff really ain't so bad, now that it lines up with all my other "Things"...
Thumbs Up:
- Lots and lots and lots of great family time this last week: family from all over the province, Alberta, California and even Newfoundland!
- I have a new brother-in-law!
- I heard a heartbeat today. Going about 156 beats/minute. It came from inside of me, but wasn't mine. :)
Loathing:
- Fatigue.
- Runny noses, fever, teething. It's been that kind of week.
- Making dinner. (What's with me? Usually I don't mind this task.)
- Finding food for a picky eater.
- Slow-ripening tomatoes.
- Hearing the phrase, "But I don't want Peaches to get [toy du jour]!" shrilly and repeatedly, all day. Day after day.
Loving:
- Getting to the gym. Started incorporating more weights workouts!
- The 090909 postcard swap I participated in last week. Already have 4 of my 9 cards.
- The cool folks in my bible study small group. Missed 'em this summer.
- Re-reading my favourite bits in Lord of the Rings.
- Knitting, especially when I have the correct tension.
- Hot weather that really isn't that hot.
- When Chris comes home.
- And these kiddos:
Ick and Blah:
- The birthday boy threw up yesterday.
- He also ran a fever (and is still a bit today).
- I now qualify in the category of You know you're a parent when... you catch vomit in your hands. In this case, it really wasn't adequate. Yucky!
- Rinsing out the sheets.
- More laundry.
- Spending an hour sitting with Gus in the bathroom where he insisted on being, crying and moaning and not letting me cuddle him, certain he was going to throw up again.
- Those pesky three pounds came back - and then some! Grrrr.
Yay!
- Started a new book: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. I like it.
- Leaving on a road trip in a couple of days - through the Rockies to Wild Rose Country to see family and friends.
- Kids are happily entertained by toys or home videos right now, enough that Mom can write on the internets and read a book. (No sooner did I type those lines than I had to get up to rescue a book. sighs.)
Better quit while I'm ahead.
Yesterday was cool because:
- My 70-year old neighbour and her sister took me up on my invitation for coffee in the morning and I got to listen to two wonderful women tell me about their recent trip to Vancouver Island (making me miss the place something fierce) and just generally feel like I'm connecting with folks outside my demographic, which is a good thing.
- I noticed just how muscly my legs are (granted, with plenty of cushioning) and I like that.
- My in-laws arrived (the last float on this month's Parade of the Grandparents) = Insta-Babysitters. Plus, I like them.
- I bought new sunglasses (two for one!), two new shirts and a pair of capris and new pretty underthings, all on sale.
- I did all of said shopping, plus a few regular errands sans children (which is actually pretty much essential when it comes to shopping for new pretty underthings.)
- The hummous I made was better than the stuff we picked up at the store last week.
- Chris and I went on a date: drinks and dessert at Earls and we didn't even have to pay thanks for a Valentine's gift from my folks we finally got around to using.
- I made plans to see the new Harry Potter flick with a friend tomorrow.
- I started reading a book by Alexander McCall Smith.
- Spilling coffee on our fabric-covered kitchen chairs.
- Underthings shopping. It just reminds me that I'm still a breast-feeding mama packing some pounds. Sighs.
Loathing:
- Why am I feeling so wound up about politics and our electoral system? This is new to me; unlike the previous-me. I don't like it. I think.
- Weak options.
- Eating way too many butterscotch chips at once.
- That we're likely to re-elect a premier who has a drunk driving conviction obtained while premier. Blech.
- When my computer won't read my camera's digital picture card.
- Not going for a run today.
Loving:
- Interactive Election Results Maps.
- A new baby! (No - not me. But one of my best friends just adopted - yahoo!)
- The Order of the Phoenix
- The possibility of working as an electoral officer on day. I think that'd be cool.
- Learning about the evacuation of Dunkirk
- Fulfilling wishes.
- Liver.
- Gardens that sprout.
Thumbs Down:
- That sticky, sweaty feeling after a workout. And the fact that my face looks like a tomato, too.
- Finding new ways of serving spinach.
- Postage costs.
- Rockin' workout - so good that I felt sick afterward. And yes, that is a good thing for me.
- Friends who come by bearing vanilla lattes from Cowboy's. Anytime, girls, anytime.
- Peaches and Gus doing the nap thing really well = me getting time to read, journal and pray.
- Oh, and watch the latest Grey's.
- If I'd ever wondered if Peaches would ever climb stairs, I can stop wondering. (But seriously, folks - she's only 8 months old! Gah!)
- Three Cups of Tea and In Defense of Food.
- Water. (I did just have a workout!)
- My bible study group. Good times.
Cheers!
- My parents are coming to visit!
- Coffee.
- Another month, another wishlist.
- A very good time with the in-laws et al.
- Surfing the interwebs. (Dial-up makes your really treasure the important things in life, you know?)
- Knitting project: finally got a good start on it. (I had bought the yarn ages ago and it was intended for Gus. Guess what Peaches gets to wear come fall? :)
- Easter weekend coming.
- Sunshine and warm temperatures. Finally.
Meh.
- Sore neck = limited range of motion.
- Couldn't stop to see my nephew on the trek home yesterday.
- Chores.
- Refinancing our mortgage = lots of paperwork and phone calls.
- Peaches thinking waking up every 1 1/2 to 3 hours is just a great way to pass the night.
The day started out blah but didn't end up that way.
Meh.
- My post-partum body. But you really don't want to read about how I feel fat all the time.
- I'm bored of my salad dressings. Any ideas?
- Sore back.
- Snow.
Yay!
- Impromptu visit with a good friend. Our kids even did ok with sharing and at the age of 2, that's a big deal.
- Ravioli.
- Amazing package arrived today: A Moomin tin with salty licorice and an assortment of crocheted flowers.
- Lots of good books to read.
- Water.
- Gym work out.
- Inspiration.
Meh.
- Colds, colds, colds: The kids and I all have runny noses and sore throats. I'm all achy and tired. I'm such a weak wimp when I'm sick.
- Cold: It's March but Old Man Winter isn't letting go. Some snow and now chilling temps with wind chill that rivals our January cold snaps.
- Lethargic: What should we do with our time? As in, with Gus and myself. Especially when we'd both rather be sleeping.
Yah!
- This, too, shall pass.
- Coffee and tea.
- The fingerless mitts I knitted turned out. Picture to follow.
- My husband - longsuffering man that he is
- Lots of craft projects I want to do and have the resources for!
Thumbs Up:
- Book club - less than half our group could make it but the conversation went very well. I appreciate the book that much more.
- Fewer people at book club meant that I still have lots of crudites leftover which means I'm far more likely to eat my veggies today (and tomorrow).
- Twenty per cent off at a local health food store. Guess who's going shopping today?
- Yogurt-covered raisins.
- Hanging out with a friend, and being able to be a blessing to her just by hanging out.
- Peaches is back to regular night-time programming after a sleeping hiatus = more sleep for mom.
- Sunshine and warmer temps. The snow is receding.
Thumbs Down:
- Chris won't get home until late tonight - or at least late enough that I get to put both kids to bed by myself.
- I don't have a set of double pointed 4mm needles to start a project I'm interested in. Must find time for knitting store.
- Won't get to the gym for a workout today.
Yep, think that's all for now. Rough life. ;)
